A wine competition in 1976 proved the Napa Valley, California was a force to be reckoned with when the Stags Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Cask 23’ beat the top French vineyards to win the top award, which showed the quality attainable in the Napa Valley, California .
